Britons Show Resilience, Embrace Self-Reliance Amid Global Uncertainty
A new survey reveals that Britons are taking responsibility for their own preparedness, bolstering community resilience in the face of potential disruptions and demonstrating the enduring spirit of self-reliance.

LONDON – A recent survey by Link, the UK’s ATM network, highlights a growing trend of Britons embracing self-reliance and personal responsibility in the face of global uncertainty. The survey indicates a significant number of citizens are taking proactive steps to prepare for potential disruptions, demonstrating a commendable spirit of independence and community resilience.
The Link survey reveals that Britons are stockpiling cash, tinned goods, and other essential supplies, reflecting a prudent approach to potential crises. Rather than relying solely on government intervention, these individuals are taking ownership of their safety and security, embodying the values of self-sufficiency and personal responsibility that have long been cornerstones of British society.
When asked about their planned response to a scenario where card and mobile payments were unavailable, a majority (54%) said they would withdraw cash from an ATM. This preference for tangible currency underscores the importance of financial independence and the need to maintain access to traditional means of exchange. The fact that many planned to use supplies (46%) or cash on hand (41%) points to a culture of preparedness and resourcefulness.
The survey highlights the specific actions taken by Britons to prepare for potential disruptions. Almost half (49%) reported having battery-powered items at home, while 47% had a supply of tinned goods, and 37% kept a power bank to charge their phones. This proactive approach demonstrates a clear understanding of the need to be self-sufficient in the face of unforeseen challenges.
The UK government’s Prepare website offers valuable guidance on emergency preparedness, reinforcing the importance of individual responsibility and community resilience. By encouraging citizens to take proactive steps, the government is fostering a culture of self-reliance and empowering individuals to safeguard their own well-being.
This growing trend of preparedness reflects a broader commitment to traditional values and community strength. By taking responsibility for their own safety and security, Britons are reinforcing the foundations of a resilient and independent society.
