Law and Order Prevails: Tlaib Sparks Outrage After Defending Convicted Antifa Terrorists Who Shot a Texas Police Officer
The North Texas antifa cell received a combined 450 years in federal prison for a coordinated armed assault on an immigration detention facility.

The federal judiciary delivered a decisive blow against domestic terrorism, sentencing eight members of a violent far-left antifa cell to a combined 450 years in prison for a coordinated armed assault on a Texas immigration facility. The landmark convictions represent the first successful application of federal domestic terrorism charges against antifa extremists under National Security Presidential Memorandum 7. However, the sentences have provoked outrage from progressive lawmakers, most notably Representative Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., who publicly defended the convicted terrorists and condemned their prison terms as a 'travesty.'
The convictions stem from a highly organized, violent attack launched in July 2025 against the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. According to federal prosecutors, the defendants operated as an active North Texas antifa cell. The group utilized large explosive devices to create a diversion, specifically designed to lure federal officers and local police into an ambush outside the facility. Once the officers responded, the extremists opened fire with firearms. During the attack, Alvarado Police Lieutenant Thomas Gross was shot in the neck. Lt. Gross survived the potentially lethal wound, and the assailants were apprehended.
The ringleader of the attack, Benjamin Song, a former Marine Corps reservist who betrayed his oath to the nation, was handed the maximum sentence of 100 years in prison for the attempted murder of Lieutenant Gross. The seven other defendants received sentences ranging from 30 to 70 years after being convicted of charges including providing material support to terrorists, conspiracy to use weapons and explosives, and rioting. The severe sentences reflect the gravity of their actions and the threat they posed to public safety and national security.
The prosecution of the cell was made possible by National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 (NSPM-7), issued by President Donald Trump in 2025. The administration enacted the memorandum following the tragic assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, officially classifying antifa as a 'domestic terrorist organization.' This designation provided federal law enforcement and prosecutors with the necessary tools to target the far-left militant network's infrastructure, financing, and training operations, ensuring that acts of political violence are met with the full force of federal law.
Despite the court proving that the defendants planned and executed a violent ambush, Representative Tlaib took to social media to defend the extremists. 'These sentences are a travesty and totally unjustified, but that's the point,' Tlaib wrote. She accused the administration of utilizing 'brute force' to 'cling to power,' claiming that 'Americans hate the fascist Trump regime.' Tlaib went on to attack the domestic terrorism policy itself, writing, 'NSPM-7 is a grave threat to all of us and more bulls--- ‘terrorism’ charges like these are coming.'
