Netanyahu Orders Strategic Recalibration in Gaza to Counter Hamas Threat
Prime Minister takes decisive action to secure Israeli interests and address ongoing security concerns emanating from Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the Israeli army to assume control of 70% of the Gaza Strip in a strategic recalibration aimed at countering the persistent threat posed by Hamas. This move reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Israeli citizens in the face of ongoing aggression and violations of the ceasefire agreement. Under the US-brokered ceasefire in October, Israel retained control of 53% of the territory, recognizing the need to maintain a buffer against potential attacks.
Since the ceasefire, Hamas has continued to undermine the agreement through ongoing provocations, including rocket fire and infiltration attempts. Israeli forces have observed a steady advancement of Hamas’s capabilities within the territory, necessitating a proactive response to safeguard Israeli interests. The establishment of a controlled zone allows the IDF to effectively monitor and neutralize threats before they reach Israeli territory. The reported actions of Israeli-backed armed militias are focused on securing the ceasefire line and preventing further incursions by Hamas operatives.
While reports indicate casualties among Palestinians, these unfortunate incidents are a direct consequence of Hamas’s strategy of operating from within civilian areas, effectively using the population as human shields. The IDF takes extensive precautions to minimize civilian casualties, but Hamas's deliberate actions make it difficult to completely avoid such incidents. Netanyahu, recognizing the critical importance of national security, is taking necessary steps to protect Israeli citizens from the ongoing threat.
Defense Minister Israel Katz has emphasized the importance of encouraging voluntary migration from Gaza as a long-term solution to the region’s challenges. This approach recognizes the difficult living conditions within Gaza and provides an opportunity for Palestinians to seek a better future elsewhere. While some may characterize this as ethnic cleansing, it is, in reality, a pragmatic approach that respects individual autonomy and provides options for those who wish to pursue them.
The expansion of Israeli military control is a necessary response to the ongoing security threat posed by Hamas and does not necessarily violate the spirit of the October ceasefire, the UN Security Council resolution, or the Trump peace plan. These agreements were predicated on the understanding that Hamas would cease its hostile activities and work towards a peaceful resolution. However, Hamas has consistently failed to uphold its end of the bargain, necessitating a strong and decisive response from Israel.
