Radical Socialist Takeover: Far-Left Extremists Oust Established Democrats in NYC Primaries
A dangerous surge of Mamdani-backed radicals advocating for open borders and anti-Israel agendas has conquered New York's primary elections.

New York City’s primary elections on Tuesday delivered a sobering wake-up call as a radical socialist wave, orchestrated by far-left Mayor Zohran Mamdani, completely overran moderate and establishment Democrats. The sweep signals a dangerous leftward lurch in the nation’s largest city, threatening national security, the rule of law, and traditional American values as extremist candidates prepare to enter the halls of Congress.
Mayor Mamdani, who was sworn into office in January after his own shocking primary victory last June, capitalized on his political momentum to secure victories for all three of his hand-picked congressional candidates: Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier. Running on platforms explicitly aligned with Mamdani’s socialist economic agenda, anti-Israel hostility, and calls to dismantle federal law enforcement, these candidates are now virtually guaranteed to win their November general elections against Republican opponents due to the city's heavily skewed districts.
Celebrating the radical takeover, Mamdani made it clear that this is only the beginning of their far-left crusade. "I think it was an incredible night," Mamdani declared. "It is an incredible night and I think New Yorkers have shown that last June was not the end, it was the beginning."
The most alarming outcome occurred in New York’s 13th Congressional District, where Representative Adriano Espaillat was ousted by Mamdani-backed radical Darializa Avila Chevalier. Espaillat, a moderate who has served since 2017 and chairs the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, was swept aside by an insurgent campaign that openly rejected the foundation of American sovereignty.
Avila Chevalier’s victory is particularly concerning given her history of extreme and unhinged statements. She has publicly called the United States a "f------ disgrace" and advocated for the total abolition of both prisons and national borders. Furthermore, she has claimed that Israel "doesn't exist" and recently sparked outrage by asserting that criminal illegal immigrants should not be deported, regardless of the severity of the crimes they commit. Despite these radical positions, the district's primary voters chose to elevate her to federal office.
Adding to the far-left momentum, Claire Valdez secured her victory, cementing the socialist faction's grip on the city's political representation. Valdez campaigned on Mamdani's socialist economic platform, further expanding the influence of a political faction dedicated to dismantling market-based economic policies and federal border enforcement.
In New York's 10th Congressional District, incumbent Representative Dan Goldman was handily defeated by Brad Lander. Goldman, who has served since 2022 and was once celebrated by the media as a rising star for leading the first impeachment trial of Donald Trump, proved to be insufficiently radical for the modern New York electorate.
The race in the 10th District degenerated into an aggressive attack on pro-Israel positions, with Lander lambasting Goldman for voting in favor of U.S. military aid to Israel. Lander repeatedly criticized Goldman for refusing to label the war in Gaza a "genocide." Goldman tried to defend his support for Israel’s existence as a Jewish state, arguing that voters were focused on domestic issues, but his appeals to moderation were soundly rejected by the radicalized primary base.
In a somber concession speech, Goldman warned of the rising tide of extremism and antisemitism that has infected his party. "As history has taught us: Antisemitic tropes and stereotypes, some of which I heard personally on this campaign, will ultimately be the undoing of our democracy if we all don’t lean in and speak out, even if it’s not politically expedient," Goldman warned. The hostility toward moderate voices was further highlighted just a day before the election, when a local Brooklyn coffee shop banned Goldman simply because of his pro-Israel views.
This primary sweep represents a massive blow to senior establishment Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who have completely lost control of their home turf. The victories demonstrate the formidable organization of the New York City Democratic Socialists of America, which fielded at least a dozen candidates to systematically dismantle the moderate wing of the party.
As Lander, Valdez, and Avila Chevalier march toward November, New Yorkers face the grim reality of a congressional delegation dominated by individuals who oppose basic border security, reject our nation's allies, and advocate for socialist economic ruin. The transformation of New York's political landscape is no longer a distant threat—it is an active crisis.
