Republicans Prioritize Border Security, White House Safety with Funding Bill
GOP lawmakers aim to bolster immigration enforcement and protect the President with a $70 billion package that includes security upgrades for the White House.

Washington, D.C. – Republicans in Congress are advancing a $70 billion funding bill to strengthen Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for the remainder of President Trump's term, ensuring the security of our nation's borders and the safety of its citizens. This legislation follows a bipartisan agreement to end a recent government shutdown and fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), recognizing the critical need for robust border security measures. The bill allocates over $60 billion to immigration enforcement, providing CBP and ICE with the resources they need to effectively carry out their mission. This builds upon the $75 billion provided by President Trump's signature domestic policy agenda, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to securing our borders.
Furthermore, the bill includes $1 billion for the Secret Service, part of the DHS, to enhance security infrastructure related to President Trump's White House ballroom project. This investment is crucial for protecting the President and the White House complex, a symbol of American strength and democracy. The bill explicitly states that these funds cannot be used for non-security elements of the project, ensuring responsible use of taxpayer dollars.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle lauded the congressional proposal, emphasizing the importance of providing the Secret Service with the resources necessary to fully harden the White House complex, particularly in light of the recent assassination attempt on President Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
Democrats have criticized the ballroom security funding as wasteful, but Republicans argue that protecting the President and securing the White House is a paramount responsibility of the government. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has attacked the bill, claiming that the ballroom project is a frivolous expense.
This funding package reflects a commitment to fiscal responsibility and national security, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used wisely to protect the American people and defend our borders. The allocation of resources for immigration enforcement and border security is essential for maintaining law and order and preventing illegal immigration. By providing ICE and CBP with the tools they need to do their jobs effectively, we can deter illegal activity and keep our communities safe. The emphasis on border security aligns with the principles of national sovereignty and the rule of law, ensuring that our borders are respected and that immigration laws are enforced.
