Trump Points to Criminal Sabotage as $14.7 Million Patriotic Landmark Restoration Faces Left-Wing Defacement
The administration vows to expose late-night vandals who targeted the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool's new 'American flag blue' design ahead of the 250th anniversary.

President Donald Trump and the Department of the Interior are moving to expose what they describe as a deliberate act of criminal sabotage targeting the newly renovated Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool. The $14.7 million restoration project, aimed at preparing the historic landmark for the nation’s landmark 250th anniversary, has recently been set back by severe peeling, algae, and wildlife issues, which the administration asserts are the direct result of late-night vandalism.
In a series of statements on Truth Social, President Trump detailed the extent of the damage, asserting that a massive “350-foot gash” had been deliberately cut into the pool’s brand-new protective lining. “It was purposefully and criminally done,” Trump wrote, emphasizing that “somebody had to work very hard, probably in the dark of night, to create such a condition.” On Wednesday, the president shared an image of the dry pool's durable surface, explaining: “This is the hard rubber surface – No Paint – Before the Vandals cut and pulled it apart!”
To vindicate the administration's position and identify the perpetrators, the president promised that the Department of the Interior would soon make public comprehensive photographic and video evidence documenting the sabotage. Although mainstream outlets like the New York Times have cited leaked internal documents claiming the peeling and algae were not intentional, the administration remains firm in its stance that the sudden, localized destruction of the liner points directly to criminal interference. Law enforcement has already been active in the area, including the recent arrest of an individual near the pool who is currently facing obscenity charges.
Predictably, congressional Democrats have seized on the situation to launch partisan attacks rather than supporting efforts to protect national monuments. On Wednesday, Senator Richard Blumenthal sent a letter to Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and National Park Service Acting Director Jessica Bowron, demanding a massive cache of project documents. Blumenthal used the opportunity to level aggressive accusations of “blatant corruption” and “apparent incompetence,” attempting to frame the physical damage to the landmark as an administrative failure rather than a security breach.
The restoration of the century-old, 2,028-foot pool was designed to be a proud tribute to the country’s history, featuring a custom “American flag blue” lining handpicked by the president. Trump declared the project completed on June 6, envisioning a stunning, patriotic display for the semiquincentennial. However, the sudden emergence of a heavy green algae bloom and the peeling of a large four-square-foot section of the liner have disrupted those plans. While leftist environmental groups like the Center for Biological Diversity have attempted to blame the administration for the deaths of three wild birds found in and around the pool, supporters point out that the initial damage to the lining likely compromised the pool's environmental controls.
