Florida GOP Candidate Sounds Alarm Over Radical Socialist Takeover of New York Democratic Party
Scott Singer warns of a major business and resident exodus as far-left candidates running on extreme platforms oust moderate New York Democrats.

Tuesday's primary elections in New York City have confirmed the worst fears of moderates and conservatives alike, as a radical socialist faction successfully seized control of key Democratic congressional nominations. In the aftermath of these shocking results, Florida Republican House candidate Scott Singer warned that the far-left takeover of New York’s political infrastructure will inevitably accelerate the flight of taxpayers and businesses to free, low-tax states like Florida.
The primary results represent a major victory for New York City’s socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, whose endorsed candidates swept their establishment opponents. Claire Valdez, Brad Lander, and Darializa Avila Chevalier defeated moderate incumbents, with Valdez and Chevalier running with the official backing of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). This dramatic shift highlights the rapid erosion of centrist influence within the Democratic Party.
The most high-profile defeat occurred in the race between progressive Brad Lander and moderate Representative Dan Goldman, which Lander won easily. This outcome signals that the Democratic establishment is no longer able to hold back the socialist tide, leaving the party’s platform in the hands of left-wing activists who openly advocate for the dismantling of key national institutions.
Singer, the former mayor of Boca Raton who is currently running for Congress in Florida’s 25th District, sounded the alarm on the extreme platforms of these newly nominated candidates. Their stated goals include abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), shutting down all prisons, and ending private healthcare. Singer noted that this agenda represents a radical departure from the traditional policies of the Democratic Party, warning that these extreme influences will send shock waves across the country.
"When you have two Democratic members of the House taken out by candidates who say things like they want to abolish ICE, abolish all prisons, and end private healthcare, it shows that the Democratic Party in New York and increasingly in America is not only not our parents' Democratic Party, it's not the Democratic Party of just a year ago," Singer told Fox News Digital. He predicted that these policies would destroy local economies, forcing productive citizens to flee.
In addition to their extreme economic and social agendas, the winning candidates demonstrated a shared hostility toward Israel, an issue that became a central theme in the primary campaigns. Singer pointed out that this ideological hostility has contributed to a dangerous rise in antisemitism on the streets of New York City, creating an increasingly hostile environment for Jewish residents and public officials.
To illustrate the severity of the situation, Singer cited recent attacks against Representative Goldman, whose office was vandalized just three days before the primary. Goldman was also reportedly barred from entering a local restaurant simply because of his Jewish faith. Singer warned that these events bear alarming similarities to the early stages of 1930s Germany, stating, "God help us if we get there, but we have to understand what people want to do and what's winning in the Democratic Party right now."
The economic consequences of this political realignment are already visible, as New York’s high-tax, high-regulation environment continues to drive residents and businesses south. Singer argued that the victory of socialist candidates will only supercharge this exodus, bringing more wealth, talent, and capital to Florida. He noted that former moderates are increasingly turning to the Republican Party as the only remaining force standing for fiscal responsibility and the rule of law.
