Law and Order on the National Mall: Federal Hunt Underway for Vandal Who Targeted Iconic Reflecting Pool
The U.S. Park Police are calling on citizens to help identify an individual caught on camera sabotaging a national monument.

Federal law enforcement authorities are taking swift action to protect America’s national heritage after a series of brazen attacks on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The U.S. Park Police (USPP) have released surveillance footage of a suspect and are pleading with the public for assistance in identifying the individual responsible for damaging government property in the heart of our nation's capital.
The incident took place on Friday at approximately 3:36 p.m., right on the grounds of the Lincoln Memorial. Police released video showing an individual—who appears to be a woman with dark hair, wearing a gray shirt, black shorts, and carrying a light-colored handbag—kneeling down and reaching deep into the water, apparently targeting the pool’s newly installed protective liner.
This vandalism directly targeted a patriotic restoration project initiated by President Donald Trump. The administration had sought to resurface the Reflecting Pool to display a magnificent "American Flag Blue." Instead, deliberate acts of sabotage have caused the paint to peel and sparked an unnatural algae bloom, turning the proud monument into a swampy green eyesore.
President Trump and federal law enforcement have made it clear that lawlessness will not be tolerated on the National Mall. Multiple individuals have already been arrested and others cited for their roles in the destruction. The administration is committed to prosecuting these offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
Speaking from the Oval Office on Wednesday, President Trump described the malicious methods used by the vandals. "They went down with probably a box cutter or a very sharp razor of some kind or a knife, and they cut, and then they started ripping it up," the president said. "You know why? Because they’re sick people."
Trump did not mince words regarding the motivations behind the destruction, attributing the acts of sabotage to extreme political hostility. "These people should go to jail for a long time," Trump declared, stating that the damage was driven by "Trump Derangement Syndrome." To repair the extensive damage, federal workers will have to drain the pool.
The president also detailed further attacks on the monument's grounds, revealing that the vandals targeted the surrounding lawns. "Around the Reflecting Pool, we have a huge field of grass," Trump explained. "They poured acid on the grass, the same people, I guess. It killed – you know, acid kills grass quickly – so that’s being fixed."
These attacks follow earlier chemical sabotage, with Trump noting on Monday that chemicals had been "illegally placed in the water" to disrupt the pool’s ecosystem and ruin the restoration. Dedicated National Park Service (NPS) employees and contractors have been working tirelessly, using specialized vacuums on June 18, 2026, to clear the algae and restore the pool's integrity.
The investigation remains highly active. US Olympian David Hearn was recently arrested in connection with the Reflecting Pool incidents, though he has denied any involvement. Law enforcement continues to track down all leads to ensure everyone involved in these unpatriotic acts is brought to justice.
Our national monuments are symbols of American unity and strength, and those who seek to deface them for political purposes must face severe consequences. The U.S. Park Police urge anyone who recognizes the individual in the footage to immediately contact authorities and stand up for the rule of law.
